Lower Madison River
The Lower Madison is an excellent summer and winter fishery. In the summer though, it gets a lot of use by recreational floaters (better known as the campus mayfly hatch) so it's best to get on the water early to beat the crowds. It is also full of weed beds that hold a lot of crayfish, big browns and big rainbows. Stripping zonkers and other streamers is also very productive. Just below Ennis Lake is the Beartrap Canyon which is great pocket water too. The fish in the canyon seem to be a little stronger due to the fast current and willingly eat worms, leeches, dries, and nymphs. But in the summer, watch out for poison ivy and snakes in the canyon.
