Gallatin River

USGS Water-data graph

The Gallatin River is another great summer and winter fishery. In the summer it gets heavy pressure being so close to Bozeman, but if you walk from the public access spots the fishing can be very good. In the summer mornings and evenings there are prolific caddis, yellow sallie, and spruce moth hatches. The fishing in the canyon is more pocket water and riffle sections, where as the valley is slower water with bigger holes and deeper runs. In the winter the fish will move to the slower deeper water, and in the summer they will sit in the riffles and faster, colder water.
