Missouri July 26th

Jordan and I headed to the Missouri and had great fishing all day. It was 96 today so we made it short and sweet but picked up 17-20 inch fish all morning. Lots of caddis around with a few pmd's still in the mix. The tricos have also started but fish didn't seem to be on them on the lower river. Check with the trout shop for up to date information. Nice Whitie huh!! I guess a couple of nice trout as well!! Have fun out there peeps.

July 24th

Had a day off from the guiding world today and snuck away to one of our areas many streams. These little trout were ravenous today, eating pretty much any dry I threw on. Back to the Yellowstone tomorrow and more pictures to follow. Good Fishing everyone!!

Yellowstone July 20th and 21st

The Yellowstone has been on fire the last couple days with some great fish being caught in the valley section. With flows dropping the fish are starting to feed like crazy. Lots of yellow sallies and caddis out there and rubberleg stones have also been productive. Watch for mud plugs over the next couple of days as we have had some storms in the park. Give us a call for up to date info. This next week promises to be even better as the water continues to clear and different areas of the river become fishable. Good fishing everyone!!! Quick note the Upper Madison is also fishing well and I will update my trip from yesterday asap!!

Yellowstone

I have been on the Yellowstone almost everyday this last week and each day the river is fishing better and better. With the flows steadily dropping its only going to get better!! Nymphing has been the most productive with rubber legs, iron sallies, and big lightning bugs uh oh watch out for the whities. Some dry fly action is beginning though as the river does get a little more visibility. Try big attractors trailed with a yellow sally or a caddis. From all the mud this year the fish look like they have been sand blasted by all the silt but most of the trout we have caught look healthy otherwise and are putting up a good fight. I am looking forward to the next week here as the river should really fire up. Go get em!!

Madison Early July

The Upper Madison has been fishing great over the last two weeks with some really nice fish being caught both on dries and nymphs. Lots of caddis and yellow sallies still around and with the water temps where they are we should have great fishing over the next few weeks. The kid in the photo was only six years old so we should all congratulate him on his first Montana Trout, way to go buddy. Good Fishing everyone, enjoy what is going to be a great summer!!

Beaverhead

With the local rivers still a little ways from being fish able I took the lady to the Beaverhead over the weekend. We got em pretty good all day with the pmd's and yellow sallies coming off in good numbers. Nymphing military mays and small tungsten sallies were the most productive. Good Fishing everyone!!

Canyon Ferry

I did some carp fishing this week and the action was pretty good. Small green wolly buggers were the ticket. Leading the fish a foot or two seemed to be ok as the fish weren't too spooky. Go get em!!

Big Hole

Fished the Big Hole river this past week and ran into a few Salmon Flies. As of Yesterday they were heaviest around the Melrose/Brown's Bridge area. The dry fly fishing is still waiting to go off but the fish are hitting the nymphs pretty well. Try a rubberleg with a san juan trailer. I did get a few fish with crunchy bellies so they are starting to key in on the stones. Bring your big salmon dries, it may happen any day. Good Fishing!!!

Paddlefishing June 1st, 2nd

I went to Glendive Montana this week and did some paddlefishing. I make the annual trip during runoff plus when else do you have a chance to hang with the locals and do some old fashion snagging? I even got one on a spey rod! Off to fish some ponds tomorrow then to the Madison and Willow Creek over the weekend. Good Fishing Everyone!!!

Friday May 23rd

Back to work today on the river and in search of clean water we went. Went to the Lower Madison but that was huge and dirty, then went to the Upper but the west fork and cabin creek were muddying that up. Finally found some good water between the lakes above Cabin Creek. Took some long time clients and family friends from Maryland and Virginia. Here's Ford with a nice rainbow and Ed hooking up. Stone flies, lightning bugs and baetis nymphs won the day. Although the fishing was pretty good, man there were a lot of people. Good fishing everyone!!!

Friday May 16th, Saturday May 17th

My lady and I fished the Lower Mad the last few days along with the rest of the fishing community. Absolutely beautiful days, got a little burnt though whoops. Lots of caddis and yellow sallies out there on the river right now but with flows increasing fishing has been a little finicky. Once I was out of the boat though the fishing seemed to improve. I guess they just needed a couple of looks at the fly. Add weight and don't be afraid to go BIG! As of this morning the river was at 2,800cfs.

Saturday May 10th

We fished the upper mad today, which started out pretty cold and windy but ended up being a great spring day with a little fresh mountain snow. The baetis came off in the afternoon and this bow bow was fooled by a stalcup baetis nymph. My dog Monty tried to help out a little. The fishing definetly picked up as the day went on and the water had a chance to warm up. Another fun one on the water!!

Winter just won’t go away but today I took two guys from the Midwest to Depuy’s Spring Creek. The wind wasn’t blowing fortunately and we were able to pick up fish on baetis nymphs and midge pupa. The Blue Wings came of in the afternoon in good numbers and were able to pick up some nice fish on dries. Back in the boat and off to the upper mad tomorrow, hopefully the crowds won’t be too bad with everything else pretty muddy.

I teamed up with Andy yesterday to float the lower Madison for a tough day of fishing. Even though we had Baetis, March Browns, and later in the afternoon lots of Caddis, I think I can count the rising fish we saw with one hand. The few fish we did manage to fool came on Sparkle Pupa, Lightning Bugs, and a fancy San Juan Worm that Andy tied.

Wed May 7th

This week I had a chance to get out on some of the local stillwaters around the area and man did we get some nice fish. Lakes are often over looked this time of year but quite often they can be our only bet. The trick this year is finding the ones without ice. Look for Hebgen and quake lake to really pick up over the next couple of weeks as the ice finally begins to recede. We hammered the fish on mohair leeches, small olive wooly buggers and found some early callibaetis hatches. Try a large olive or grey scud if nothing else produces fish. Off to the Lower Madison tomorrow so we’ll update you then. Good Fishing!!!!
