A Quick Note on Textured Fly Lines
Just like when the Wright Brothers were trying to create an airplane, things don’t always go perfect on the first attempt with new technology. The same can be said with textured fly lines. When they first came out on the market there were issues. “Noisy” “Rough on the hands and guides” “Get dirty easily” are some of the most common complaints I hear around the shop. Well I can say textured fly lines have come a long way. Scientific Anglers have been tweaking their design constantly and have addressed most of the major issues against textured lines.
Quick and Dirty Fishing Report

Fly Tying Video: Leeches

Things to consider when booking a guided trip
We are starting to get some phone calls inquiring about the 2017 fishing season already. Fly Tying Video and Class
Shop staff superstar Tyler layin down some thread last night with one of his soft hackle bugs. A proven pattern, we should all fish soft hackles more often!
We will be having our first Introduction to Fly Tying class, Thursday nights (6-8) in January. 4 classes, $50 all materials and tools included. Come learn to tie flies in a laid back relaxing atmosphere! Classes will be kept small to insure plenty of individual instruction. Call the Shop (406)-587-9111 or stop in to sign up!
Sh*t You Hear In a Fly Shop (Montana Steelhead)
It was another typical fall day at the fly shop. A slow stream of customers, mostly the die-hard fisherman, or a few groups of visitors dropping in to get flies and licenses for their much anticipated trip to trout haven of Montana. A group stopped in that afternoon and the typical greeting ensued. I proceeded with where are you headed? They replied they were from out of town and looked at me confidently and said “Trail Creek.” Trail Creek is a small creek rarely more than 5 feet wide along a dirt road that is a short cut from Bozeman to the Paradise Valley section. My honest response was, awesome guys, haven’t fished there but have driven by it many times. The group looked at me with their jaws hung low. I proceeded to get information to print their fishing licenses when someone from the group interrupted and said, “So if you don’t fish what are you doing working in a fly shop.”

Mongolia: Without Vodka None of this Would Make Sense
There's a few places in the world every fly fisherman dreams of going. Seychelle's, Kamchatka, New Zealand, MONGOLIA. Most never get the chance to persue these destinations but every once in a while an opportunity presents itself making dreams a reality. My dad has worked in Mongolia ever since I was a kid primarily focusing on geology and mineral deposits in the Gobi desert. Growing up he was in Mongolia near 3 weeks of every month but stopped traveling to Mongolia 10 years ago. He decided to travel back this fall as a good friend from his 45 total trips to Mongolia invited him to come to his fishing camp, as well as take a look at a property in the Gobi desert near the Chinese Border. He knew I had mentioned going to Mongolia ever since I had started fly fishing and after months of preparing and booking plane tickets we were off for 16 days of travel.
