Sounds like things continue to be amazing right now fly fishing down in South America. Rod and Pam have been hosting groups and fishing in Patagonia since January to catch the summer on the other side of the globe. Lots of good reports of healthy sized 14"-19" hard fighting browns and rainbows eating big foamy cicada patterns in gin clear rivers with a few big 20"-24" trout each week, some landed some just fish tales. Everyone seems to go to Argentina for the fishing but...
The Bozeman Angler/Patagonia pre-show film party was a blast last night with a lot of fishy guys and gals doing what they do best, talking fishing and drinking PBR. Thanks so much to Patagonia for helping us put this event on for the third year going and thanks to the boys at RO Drift boats for bringing down the new "Nomad" model. The film tour was awesome as usual with roughly 450 people in attendance! It is really nice to kick back and relax with the amazing people in...
The Fly fishing film tour hits Bozeman Friday Feb. 17th!!! We got tickets for sale at the shop for $12 and they are going fast. Two films feature Montana this year so come out and support our world renowned local blue ribbon trout waters. Patagonia is sponsoring the annual pre-show party at the Bozeman Angler with free beers and snacks from 5pm to 7pm then we'll head down the street to the Emerson to watch the fish films. The RO drift boat guys will also be unvailing...
Local guide Johnny Norieka sent me this pic the other day of the nice rainbow stuck with sculpin while he was swinging flies with his switch rod. Been chasing trout with a double handed rod for about two years now and it has become high on my list of favorite ways to catch fish for a number of reasons. Top three being 1)big fish 2)covering lots of water 3)relaxation through casting. Spey casting is a lot like a repeated meditation on a certain montra and when it all comes...
Finally got some nice snow falling in the Gallatin valley which just adds to the good snowpack. Snow really just makes me think of going to the saltwater to stalk some bonefish. I have a trip planned down to Long Island, Bahamas in April for some killer sightfishing to tailing bones. The guided part of it will be hosted by outfitter Sammy Knowles at Smith & Wells bonefish lodge. A real honest place with a strong...
Things are pretty sleepy on main street today, as per usual for February. What a spectacular season for the fly fisherman with warm 40 degree days the fishing has been better than any winter i've seen in Montana. I went for a walk wade yesterday on the Gallatin with my dog Trutta and my 11' 7wt. Winston to do some streamer swinging. The action was typical of winter time with all the fish hanging in the slow tailouts and despite the sunshine a decent midge hatch occured mid...
Sitting here in the fly shop i've been vicariously fishing through my Dad who is currently harrassing trout in the Patagonia region of Argentina. He has been sending me reports of excellent weather, fishing, and friends with some awe inspiring photos and stories. As you can see it is pretty georgous country. He sent me this story the other day and i only wish there was a photo to go along- ...
