Gallatin river in the canyon

Last thursday i woke up with the burning desire to hike and find different spots in the gallatin canyon.  I spent the first thirty minutes of the day just moving my feet to get away from the usual spots.  My efforts were generously awarded with first stumbling upon a pod of trout in slow gin clear water occasionally rising to midges.  After landing about ten gorgeous 10"-14" rainbows on orange blood worms (size 14) and olive, black, or brown rubberlegs (size 6-10) i felt confident enough to switch to dries.  Armed with a trusty parachute adams (size 20) i was successfully pulling in fish feeding on the surface, in the beginning of march no less!  I was then pleasantly surprised to find some real deep pools and switched back to nymphs and pulled out about a dozen rainbows two of them being close to 20".  All in all there wasn't any water i came across that day that wasn't holding fish!  Sometimes it just blows my mind how awesome this classic mountain stream is and the fact that it is right in our backyard, this is why I live in Montana.
